ABOUT THE PROJECT
Open Heavens Calgary is a major annual worship and praise event organized by New Covenant Assembly, held at the BMO Centre in Calgary, Alberta. The event brings together thousands of attendees for a New Year’s Eve celebration featuring live performances from nationally and internationally recognized gospel artists alongside prayer, worship, and community gathering. Swash Digital designed and built the complete event website from concept to launch.
THE CHALLENGE
Large-scale faith events require a website that does several jobs at once. It must instantly communicate the scale and energy of the event to inspire first-time attendees; provide detailed logistics information clearly enough to reduce staff enquiries; feature performing artists prominently to drive attendance decisions; and handle high traffic spikes as the event date approaches — mostly from mobile devices following social media links.
The client needed a site that matched the visual ambition of the event — bold, high-energy, cinematic. Not a generic church template.

DESIGN DIRECTION
The site uses a bold black background with gold and white typography — deliberately evoking a premium concert or worship event rather than a conventional church website. Large headline typography, full-bleed concert photography, and event-ticket-style layout elements give the site a visual identity distinct from anything in the local faith community digital space. The yellow/gold ticket-card design for the venue section is a standout detail — practical and visually memorable simultaneously.
